Dusty manuscript

Hi guys,

You may not know this but I started writing a series of novels when I was 15, I finished the first after about a year and was well into writing the second not long after. But being a college student who studies four a-levels with coursework and exams all year round, having a weekend job and in the summer a second job and well.. also having a social life as a eighteen year old student. You can probably imagine how or remember yourselves maybe how difficult it is not only to find the time to write but to be in the right frame of mind too, without worries or other pressures or the idea that there is something else that could be getting done.
And I think a year may have passed where I could barely write anything.
And I'm not published or self-published or anything, but the series I started means so much to me, it's like a part of me.
And although I am super busy right now with projects in both my art and photography a-level, pressures to pass my driving test and exams in January to revise, lately I've managed to write, if only in little pieces or if going back and editing chapters already written. But it feels so good to write again.
Not just write, no, but to slip back into the world which I love so much and be with the characters which are like little segments of me.
The way I write may be slightly weird, but I tend to just randomly think of a metaphor or a quote or put myself in the frame of mind of one of my characters and think of a line that they could say. Usually if I'm in the right mood I'll think of something that inspires me to write, to include that line in a piece, so sometimes those lines themselves form the way the story heads and not because of a plan, because I don't plan I just write and that works for me.
I thought I would update you guys since reviews are extremely slow due to my busyness and I'm very sorry.
But speaking of this, it should improve is not completely liven up by this time next year.
I'll be moving on to university in September and I have applied for a dun dun dun creative writing course, which I am verrrry excited for and i'll have all this time to write because that will be my course and my life and reading and reviewing will actually contribute to writing so I can do that along side my course, and this blog and you guys and the community just are the cherry on top! Can you feel my excitement yet?!
Anyway I'm currently reading LIFE AS WE KNEW IT and I can't wait to finish it and review it for you guys because it's a real moving and thought changing kind of book which I think you will love.

If you've read through all my hype then I thank you haha,
Happy reading and of course happy writing!
For the writers out there, what writing habits do you have?
and for the readers, have you read anything about the world ending lately that has spooked you out as it collides with all the strange weather happenings and natural disasters?

*Christmas is close! I'm getting so excited*

Love,
Mazz

Blackwood TV deal!

I have some big news from the folks over at Strange Chemistry to pass on to you lovely bloggers!

MTV has put in development Blackwood, a drama from Lionsgate Television and Kelsey Grammer’s Grammnet Prods. It is based on the young adult book of the same name by Gwenda Bond, which was published this past September on the Strange Chemistry YA imprint of UK-based science fiction publisher Angry Robot Books. DC Comic book and television writer Peter Calloway (Brothers & Sisters) will write the adaptation. Blackwood centers on 19-year-old Miranda Blackwood who, when 114 people, including her father, suddenly vanish off Roanoke Island, begins to investigate the mass disappearance, teaming with her high school sweetheart. But she makes a chilling discovery when she uncovers that she’s at the center of not only this mystery, but one that traces back to the first American mystery: the disappearance of 114 people at what would be called The Lost Colony. The project stems from Grammnet’s deal with Lionsgate. Calloway executive produces with Grammnet’s Kelsey Grammer, Stella Bulochnikov, and Brian Sher. Grammnet VP Brian Taylor found the manuscript and sought out the rights for Grammnet and Lionsgate TV. WME reps Calloway, who is managed by Adam Kolbrenner, as well as Grammnet. Bond is repped by Andrea Brown Literary Agency and Gotham Group.

Exciting stuff right?
I still have the book Blackwood sitting on my tbr pile and I will review it soon for you guys!
Happy reading!

Review: Bleeding Hearts by Alyxandra Harvey

The Drakes and friends will be tested when an infestation of deadly vampires threatens Violet Hill Lucy’s cousin Christabel has come to live in Violet Hill, and adjusting to the difference between life in a small mountain town and her home in the city is difficult enough. The strict curfew that Lucy’s parents enforce is the worst part. Something really dangerous couldn’t possibly happen in this tiny town. But Christabel has noticed some mysterious happenings, and it seems like Lucy, her boyfriend Nicholas and his brother Connor are all in on a secret that Christabel doesn’t understand—one that seems deadly serious. Although she won’t admit it, Christabel would love to be in on any secret with Connor Drake. But when she is kidnapped by tthe ruthless Hel-Blar vampires, Christabel must cause more and more trouble in Violet Hill, Lucy and Connor finally fill Christabel in on all the undead drama. Together, they must find a way to stamp out the Hel-Blar for good.

Right from the start the Drake Chronicles have had a hold on me, there is something about the way Alyxandra can create a climax that rises and fades like the tide and is on going through out the books. I found this book, the forth in the series, slightly different to the others. For one it is mostly from the point of view outside of the Drake Family, yet there effect on the storyline and characters throughout is still apparent. As Lucy one of the main characters and Christabel another, Lucy's cousin, it allows a deeper connection for the reader with the character as they are 'normal' human beings, with human characteristics and behaviours. Further as being such a lover of books, and for many of you I'm sure this applies too, that I was able to relate to Christabel's character on a higher level because of her love for literature and how that shapes the kind of person she is. This absorbed me even more into the world of the Drake Chronicles and into the lives of those in Violet Hill.

I also found that Connor's character showing more in this book was great as it shows that even boys with a soft heart and love for intellectual things can be strong and charming. It shows that a girl can fall in love with what is inside of a guy rather than what they let show on the surface.

I found that Bleeding Hearts is less about romance than the others and more about action, but only slightly as there is a growing love there beneath the surface. At first these differences in the book threw me off, but the action drew me in, as a lover of action films books being able to provide that kind of thrill and the feeling of actually being there is a step better.

The problems that the all the characters have to face in the Drake Chronicles seems to be increasing with each book, so that they are not individual problems anymore but ones that involve the whole community of characters as a whole.

Finally, I'm just going to say I'm so glad I have the next addition of the Drake series on my shelf as the ending was one that made me gape at the page, it was something that ran in the shadows during the storyline and only jumps out at the very end with no real warning, the book has no ending but a dreadful beginning.

Favourite quotes

So I'm addicted to quotes, be it a quote by someone famous, a writer within or outside their novels, a lyric, something someone has said to me and it touched me so significantly I didn't let it go, a photographer.. anything. I love inspiration, and finding inspiration in words is an enjoyment to me, I adore reading a book and coming to a line that has the ability to change me, bring a tear to my eye, or let me relate whole heartedly to those letters strung on the page.
I have many quotes I love, as I'm sure you as a reader or writer do, but I don't always remember to jot them down somewhere.. so here are just a few which I keep with me:

'I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited, imagination encircles the world.' - Albert Einstein

'We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.' - Anonymous

'I try to see the un-usual within the ordinary. Little slices of life that deserves to be recorded and shown, slices of life at 1/125th of a second.' - Jim Gatlin

'A photograph contains the stolen part of reality.' - Moses Oliver

'Not all those who wander are lost.' - J.R.R Tolkein

'Tell me something sweet to get me by.' - A Day to Remember

'I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.' - Unknown

'I fell in love the way you fall asleep, slowly; and then all at once.' - John Green

'Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.' - Suzanne Collins

'It is never too late to be what you might have been.' - George Eliot

'They fail, and they alone, who have not striven.' - Thomas Bailey Aldrich

'Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today.' - Nicholas Sparks

'Sometimes when you fall you fly.' - Neil Gaiman

'I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library.' - Jorge Luis Borges

'Sometimes you need to get lost in order to discover anything.' - Katie Kacvinsky

'In hopes of reaching the moon men fail to see the flowers than blossom at their feet.' Albert Schweitzer

'The saddest people I've ever met in life are the ones who don't care deeply about anything at all. Passion and satisfaction go hand in hand, and without them, any happiness is only temporary, because there's nothing to make it last.' - Nicholas Sparks

I could go on forever, tell me about your favourite quotes.. and lets finish with this...

'Maybe our favourite quotations say more about us than the stories or people we are quoting.' - John Green
